Chile becomes the first South American country validated for eliminating dog-transmitted rabies

The World Health Organization validated Chile as the first South American country to eliminate dog-transmitted rabies as a public-health problem.

The achievement follows more than 50 years without a dog-mediated human case and sustained work in vaccination, surveillance, laboratory capacity and post-exposure care.
